ALESHA SMITH
CHANGE MAKER RECOGNITION
Alesha Smith is a social justice advocate, forever hooper, and proud product of Athens, Clarke County. After Alesha's college basketball career ended at the HBCU Xavier University of Louisiana, she decided to go into a career focusing on social justice and equity rather than pursuing a professional basketball career overseas. She now lives in Brooklyn, New York where she serves as Director of PeacePlayers Brooklyn, a sports based youth development nonprofit that uses basketball as a vehicle to build community and invest in youth leaders. Though she is now based in Brooklyn, she makes it a point to consistently come back home to Athens so that she can continue to invest in her community and mentor the next generation of leaders. This May, Alesha will be receiving her Master's degree from New York University in Educational Leadership, Politics, and Advocacy.
